Depression to woman during and after pregnancy is often happen with increasing interval each year. It is often associated with diabetes and low income. According to the investigation result of the led investigators which conducted a retrospective analysis in the relation between those factors with woman pregnancy’s depression, more than 11,000 woman with the average age 27 and 46% are black, were assessed for depression and diabetes. They investigated the coded diagnoses or prescription of relevant medication.
The investigation result is that the risk of perinatal depression on woman with prepregnated or gestational diabetes was 15% while woman who did not have diabetes is only 8%. Researchers also analyze the relation of the race, age, gestational age at delivery, and caesarean delivery. It turns out that the risk of perinatal depression is 80% higher for woman with diabetes compared to those who did not have any diabetic problem.
While the risk of postpartum depression on woman with diabetes but no prenatal depression was 69% higher than in most women who didn’t have any diabetes or prenatal depression. While for the low income mothers, the risk of perinatal depression is increasing each year because of the economic problem. This is why, planning pregnancy will be the best solution to solve the problem with depression which may lead to dangerous condition for both the baby and the mother.
